Wave Release
Control when and how orders are released to the floor. View pre-assignment queues by work type, release orders in controlled batches, and reassign work between pick methodologies—all from a single dashboard.
What Is Wave Release?
Wave Release is an order management function that controls when and how orders are released to the warehouse floor for fulfillment. Instead of pushing all orders to pickers at once, Wave Release lets operations managers release work in controlled batches—or "waves"—based on capacity, priority, and timing requirements.
In traditional warehouses, wave planning happens hours or days in advance. JASCI's Wave Release gives you real-time control: see exactly how many orders are queued by work type, release specific quantities when you're ready, and reassign orders between pick methodologies on the fly.
Wave Release is ideal for operations with carrier cutoff windows, limited floor space, or variable staffing levels. It ensures you never overwhelm your team while keeping fulfillment on schedule.
Wave Release at a Glance
Key Capabilities
Complete control over order release timing and work type assignment
Pre-Assignment Queue Visibility
See all orders waiting in pre-assignment status by work type. Know exactly how much work is queued before releasing to pickers.
Controlled Batch Release
Release orders in specific quantities rather than all at once. Control floor congestion and balance workload across shifts.
Work Type Reassignment
Move pre-assigned orders between work types. Shift cluster picks to singles, batch to discrete, or any combination based on current capacity.
Real-Time Order Counts
Live counts of pre-assignment orders vs. active working orders by work type. Make informed decisions about release timing.
Work History Tracking
Every release and reassignment is logged with team member, timestamp, and action. Full audit trail for wave management.
Multi-Fulfillment Center
Manage wave releases across multiple fulfillment centers. Each FC maintains its own queue and release controls.
Manage All Work Types
Release and reassign orders across any configured work type
Cluster Pick
Multi-order cart picking for high-volume B2C fulfillment.
Batch Singles
Single-item orders grouped for efficient zone picking.
Discrete Orders
One order at a time for complex or high-value items.
Replenishment
Letdown and restock tasks to keep pick faces full.
Case Pick
Full case picking from reserve for wholesale orders.
Pallet Pick
Full pallet movements for bulk shipments.
How It Works
Release orders to the floor in six simple steps
View Queue Status
Open Wave Release to see all work types with their pre-assignment and active working order counts.
Select Work Type
Choose the work type you want to manage—cluster picks, singles, replenishment, etc.
Release or Change
Click Release to send orders to pickers, or Change to reassign orders to a different work type.
Enter Quantity
Specify how many orders to release or reassign. Control the flow based on current floor capacity.
Confirm Action
Review the action and confirm. Orders are immediately released or reassigned with full audit logging.
Monitor Progress
Watch active working orders increase as pickers claim released work. Repeat as needed throughout the shift.
Common Use Cases
How operations teams use Wave Release to optimize fulfillment
Peak Season Management
Control order release during high-volume periods. Prevent floor congestion by releasing work in manageable waves.
Shift Balancing
Release different quantities at shift start vs. mid-shift. Keep work flowing without overwhelming pickers.
Equipment Availability
Adjust release volume based on available carts, RF devices, or automation capacity.
Priority Rebalancing
Move orders between work types when priorities shift. Convert batch work to discrete for rush orders.
Wave Release + Gravity Waveless
JASCI supports both traditional wave-based fulfillment and modern waveless operations. Use Wave Release for controlled batch releases, or combine with Gravity for continuous order streaming.
When to Use Wave Release
- You have specific carrier pickup windows to meet
- Floor space limits how much work can be active at once
- You need to prioritize certain order types at specific times
- Staffing varies by shift and you need to match work volume
