What is ASN Receiving?
ASN Receiving (Advance Ship Notice Receiving) is a warehouse receiving method where shipment details are transmitted electronically before the goods physically arrive. The ASN contains detailed information about what's being shipped—SKUs, quantities, lot numbers, carton counts, and pallet configurations—allowing the warehouse to prepare for receipt and validate incoming inventory against pre-loaded expectations.
Unlike Purchase Order Receiving (which validates against what was ordered) or Blind Receiving (which has no advance data), ASN Receiving validates against what the supplier actually shipped. This is particularly valuable for retail compliance, cross-docking operations, and high-volume distribution centers where speed and accuracy are critical.
Key Distinction
ASN Receiving answers "Did we get what they said they shipped?" while PO Receiving answers "Did we get what we ordered?" The ASN provides the most accurate expectation because it reflects the supplier's actual pick, pack, and ship actions—not just the original order.

Select ASN Receiving
Operator selects ASN Receiving from the mobile scanner menu. The system auto-generates and prints an LPN label.
Scan Workbench
Operator scans the appropriate workbench (printer). Smart collision detection prevents conflicts with other users.
Enter ASN Reference
Scan or enter the ASN reference number, then scan the LPN if applicable. ASN details load automatically.
Capture Product Details
Scan product barcode. System prompts for lot number, expiration date, serial numbers, quantity, and UOM as required.
Automated Putaway
