What is Purchase Order Receiving?
Purchase Order (PO) Receiving is the warehouse process of accepting and validating inbound inventory shipments against pre-created purchase orders. When goods arrive at the dock, warehouse operators verify that the physical products match what was ordered—checking quantities, SKUs, lot numbers, and condition—before updating the warehouse management system (WMS) and moving inventory to storage locations.
Unlike Blind Receiving (where no advance information exists) or ASN Receiving(where detailed shipment data arrives electronically before the truck), PO Receiving uses the original purchase order as the source of truth. This makes it ideal for direct vendor shipments where ASNs aren't available, or for validating that suppliers delivered exactly what was ordered.
Key Distinction
PO Receiving confirms "Did we get what we ordered?" while ASN Receiving confirms"Did we get what they said they shipped?" Many warehouses use both methods depending on vendor capabilities and compliance requirements.

A step-by-step guide to the JASCI PO receiving process
Select PO Receiving
Operator selects PO Receiving from the mobile scanner menu. The system auto-generates and prints an LPN label.
Scan Workbench
Operator scans the appropriate workbench (printer). If in use, system prompts to free or select another workbench.
Enter PO Reference
Scan or enter the Purchase Order reference number, then scan the LPN if applicable.
Capture Product Details
Scan product barcode and enter lot number, expiration date, serial numbers, quantity, and UOM as required.
Automated Putaway
JASCI uses slotting rules to automatically create putaway work to the optimal location.
Complete or Continue
Scan next product to continue receiving, select "New PO" to switch, or "Exit" for partial receipt.
