ASN Entry
Create and manage Advance Ship Notices (ASNs) directly in JASCI with line-level product details, quantities, and quality specifications for streamlined pre-receipt validation.
What is ASN Entry?
ASN Entry is a WMS function that allows warehouse operators and managers to create, edit, and manage Advance Ship Notices directly within JASCI—without requiring EDI integration or automated feeds from suppliers. This provides flexibility for vendors who don't support electronic ASNs, manual corrections, or operations that need quick shipment notification entry.
An Advance Ship Notice (ASN) is a document sent by a supplier before goods arrive, detailing what's being shipped, quantities, and sometimes lot/serial information. While large suppliers typically send ASNs via EDI 856 transactions, many smaller vendors, direct imports, or inter-company transfers may require manual ASN creation in the WMS.
ASN vs. Purchase Order
A Purchase Order represents what you ordered from a supplier. An ASN represents what the supplier is actually shipping. ASN Receiving validates that what arrives matches what was shipped—which may differ from what was ordered due to backorders, substitutions, or partial shipments.
In JASCI, ASN Entry is accessed from the Inbound menu and provides a simple interface for entering ASN IDs, adding product lines with quantities and quality specs, and updating the document. Once created, ASNs are immediately available for ASN Receiving operations, and Work Lookup provides visibility into receiving progress.
Why ASN Entry Matters
Not every supplier sends electronic ASNs. Manual entry ensures you can leverage ASN-based receiving workflows for any inbound shipment.
Supplier Flexibility
Work with vendors of all sizes—even those without EDI capabilities—using the same efficient ASN receiving workflows.
Pre-Receipt Validation
ASN-based receiving catches discrepancies at the dock door before inventory enters the warehouse.
Quick Corrections
Edit existing ASNs to fix quantities, add missing products, or update details as shipment information becomes available.
